Best Women's Boxers: 10 Brands Compared
A declaration first: we are one of the ten brands below. We have not run laboratory tests and we will not pretend we did. What follows is a comparison of published specifications, checked against each brand's own product pages in July 2026, plus our own product knowledge and what customers report. Where a claim belongs to a brand rather than to us, we say whose it is. We have included the things our own boxers do badly, including one place where four of the ten beat us outright.

Only four of these ten have a genuinely long leg.
If you are buying boxers to stop thigh chafing, leg length is the whole decision, and it is the specification most brands bury or omit. Six of the ten below are short-leg boyshorts or slip shorts. They are perfectly good underwear. They will not stop your thighs touching.
The long-leg options, verified: Flissie (6 or 9 inches), TomboyX (up to 9), Woxer Biker (9), Thigh Society (5 up to 21), and Chaffree (6 or 8). Everything else stops between roughly 2 and 5 inches.

Where we lose, and we lose clearly on one thing
Ours is the 6 inch and 9 inch bamboo viscose boxer: soft, temperature-regulating, and with a leg band tensioned so it does not roll, because roll-up is the failure that makes long-leg underwear pointless.

Underwear or slip short? The distinction that catches people out
Two of the ten are not underwear.
Snag Chub Rub Shorts and Marks & Spencer Anti-Chafe Shorts are slip shorts. Neither has a gusset, and M&S reviewers say plainly that they wear normal underwear underneath. That is not a criticism, it is what slip shorts are for: a smooth layer between your thighs, worn over your knickers, usually under a dress.
The other eight are underwear with a gusset, meant to be worn on their own.
So if you are comparing an £10 M&S 2-pack against a £20 pair of boxers, you are not comparing like with like. The M&S option is an extra layer. The boxers replace what you already wear.
What are the best boxer briefs for women?
Depends what is failing you.
- Thigh chafing: you need 6 inches or more. Flissie, TomboyX 9", Woxer Biker, Thigh Society from 7 inches up, or Chaffree's 8 inch
- Very hot weather: Thigh Society's cooling knit and Snag's tights-weight fabric are the lightest here. Chaffree's COOLMAX is built for sweat specifically

- Buying on the high street with easy returns: M&S or Calvin Klein
- Under a dress, worn over your knickers: Snag or M&S
If your thighs do not touch and you are comfortable in what you own, none of this is solving a problem you have.
What each brand actually claims, and whose claim it is
Comparison articles tend to launder brand marketing into fact. Here is who says what.
Woxer describes its modal as twice as soft as cotton. That is Woxer's claim, not a measured finding. The modal is LENZING and OEKO-TEX certified, which is verifiable.
Step One calls its inner-leg panels UltraGlyde and positions them as friction-resistant. Their term, their claim. The fabric composition, 95% viscose from bamboo and 5% spandex, is published and checkable.
Thigh Society explains its cooling effect as a flat yarn cross-section that releases body heat faster. Plausible, their explanation, and the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification is independently issued.
Boody and Step One both describe their fabric as bamboo. Both are viscose made from bamboo, which is a chemically processed fibre rather than raw bamboo. Both label it accurately, which is more than much of this category manages.
Us: ours is 95% Tanboocel bamboo viscose with 5% elastane, dyed to OEKO-TEX Standard 100. We are not going to tell you it is antibacterial or hypoallergenic. The compound sometimes credited for raw bamboo does not survive viscose manufacturing, and that claim set has been the subject of regulatory action in the United States.

Prices in this category move weekly, and several of these brands discount heavily, so treat the following as a shape rather than a quote. Checked 30 July 2026.

Most of the category discounts sharply on multipacks, so compare pack rates rather than single-pair prices.
The cotton question
Cotton deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.
Cotton is breathable, cheap, forgiving in the wash and the fibre most medical guidance names when it names one at all. Its weakness is that it absorbs moisture and holds it, so it feels damp after you sweat and takes a long time to dry.
Modal and bamboo viscose are temperature-regulating: they move moisture faster and feel softer and smoother. They are also fussier to look after and more expensive. COOLMAX and cooling nylon knits move moisture fastest of the lot and feel the least like traditional underwear.
None of these is a mistake. If you want the lowest-maintenance option, buy cotton. If you want the smoothest feel and faster drying, buy modal or bamboo viscose and accept the cool wash. We have written more on how the two compare over two years of wear.

What are the best women boxers for everyday wear?
A leg long enough not to ride up and a waistband that does not dig. A 6 inch inseam handles most days and stays invisible under most clothes. Beyond that it is fabric preference and budget.
Which brands go beyond UK size 30?

Are women's boxers better than briefs?
For thigh chafing, yes, because they put fabric between your thighs and briefs do not. For everything else it is preference. Briefs are cheaper, more widely available and perfectly comfortable if chafing is not your problem.
Do cotton boxers work for chafing?
Only if the leg is long enough. TomboyX's 9 inch cotton boxer brief works fine. The problem is that most cotton boxers marketed to women stop at 2 to 4 inches. Cotton also holds moisture, and moisture makes chafing worse, so it is the weaker fabric for hot weather specifically.
What is the difference between anti-chafing shorts and boxers?
Anti-chafing shorts, like Snag's and M&S's, are slip shorts with no gusset, worn over your underwear as an extra layer. Boxers have a gusset and replace your underwear. Both stop thigh rub; only one saves you a garment.
Which women's boxers do not roll up?
The ones with a longer inseam and a properly tensioned leg band. Snag states each size is knitted to a different width to stop rolling. Boody replaces leg elastic with a soft hem. Roll-up is the most common complaint across the whole category, and it is largely a function of leg length, so a 3 inch boyleg will roll on more body shapes than a 9 inch boxer.
How much should women's boxers cost?
Roughly £10 to £27 a pair depending on brand and pack size. Most brands discount heavily on multipacks, so compare pack rates rather than singles.
