What are Flissie boxers made of?

95% Tanboocel bamboo viscose and 5% elastane. Tanboocel is a closed-loop bamboo viscose where the chemicals used to process the fibre are recovered and reused. The fabric feels closer to silk than cotton — soft, breathable, naturally temperature-regulating, and gentle on sensitive skin.

Will they roll up my thighs like other boxer shorts?

No — and this is the single most common review comment from women who've tried other brands first. Flissie boxers use a specific leg-band tension and bamboo viscose's natural cling to stay in place. If you've had Boody, Step One, or M&S boxers roll up before, this is the design difference you'll feel immediately.

Will they show under leggings or fitted dresses?

No visible panty line. Flissie boxers are designed without a hem ridge, and the boyleg cut means no waistband indent either. For the smoothest finish under fitted fabrics, the 6" inseam in a nude shade is most invisible; the 9" works best under skirts and dresses where leg length isn't an issue.

What size should I order if I'm between sizes?

When you're between sizes, size up. Flissie boxers need full skin contact to glide rather than friction-bunch — going down a size compromises the anti-chafing function. Most between-size customers say the larger size feels exactly right after one wear.

Are these good for menopause and night sweats?

Yes — bamboo viscose's moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties make Flissie one of the most-recommended options for perimenopausal and menopausal women. The fabric pulls heat and sweat away during hot flushes and night sweats. Many customers buy the 9" for sleep and the 6" for daytime.

Are they suitable for postpartum recovery?

What packaging do Flissie boxers come in?

Every pair is individually wrapped in compostable corn starch (PLA) packaging, and orders ship in fully recyclable, carbon-neutral sugarcane mailing bags. No plastic poly bags, no virgin plastic mailers, nothing destined for landfill. The corn starch wrap breaks down in a home compost; the mailer goes in your normal paper recycling.

Are Flissie boxers plastic-free?

The packaging is — both the individual wrap and the outer mailer are plant-based and home-compostable or recyclable. The boxers themselves are 95% bamboo viscose with 5% elastane (a small amount of stretch fibre needed for fit and recovery). We've removed every piece of single-use plastic we can from the production and shipping chain.

Where are Flissie boxers manufactured and how do you ensure ethical labour?

Flissie boxers are designed in the UK and manufactured by a closed-loop production partner that holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification and meets ethical labour standards including fair wages, safe working conditions, and no child labour. We visit our manufacturing partners regularly and are working toward full B-Corp certification.

How do I wash Flissie boxers?

Machine wash at 30°C with similar colours, inside out to preserve the dye. Use a gentle detergent — skip fabric softener as it coats bamboo fibres and reduces breathability. Air dry where possible; tumble drying on low is fine but shortens fabric lifespan. Avoid bleach.

Why is the multi-pack cheaper per pair?

Lower per-unit packaging, shipping and admin costs let us pass on a real saving. A single pair is £20; the 7-pack works out to roughly £13 per pair — the same boxers, just better value when you stock up. Most customers buy a multi-pack after their first single-pair trial.

Q: What's the difference between the 6" and 9" inseam?

Q: How do free size swaps work?

If the size isn't right, we'll swap any unopened pairs for a different size, free of charge, within 60 days of purchase. Just email hello@flissie.com with your order number and which size you'd like. We usually respond within one working day. Worn pairs can't be swapped for health and hygiene reasons — so try one pair first before opening the rest.

The fabric of your underwear sits against your skin all day. It decides whether you chafe, sweat, itch, or simply forget you're wearing anything. Here is an honest breakdown, including the two things cotton does better.

What each fabric is actually good at

Bamboo viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre made from bamboo pulp. It is soft from the first wear, breathable, and temperature-regulating. Ours is Tanboocel, made in a closed-loop process where the solvent used to extract the fibre is recovered and reused rather than discharged, and without carbon disulfide. It is the same family as Lyocell and Modal. The trade-off is that it needs looking after: cool wash, no fabric softener, air dry.

Cotton is breathable, cheap and by far the most forgiving in the wash. Its weakness is that it absorbs moisture and holds onto it, which is why it feels damp after you sweat. For everyday wear in cool weather, a well-made cotton pair is a perfectly sensible choice, and it is what most gynaecological guidance still points to.

Synthetic blends dry fastest and last longest in the wash, which is why they dominate sportswear. They trap heat, they hold onto odour more than natural fibres, and they shed microplastics with every wash.

I bought the black 9-inch leg in a large to accommodate my pregnancy bump. They are really silky soft and breathable, exactly what I wanted to avoid chafing. They are a little loose on the thigh as I am usually a medium, but it doesn't make them any less comfortable and means I will hopefully be able to wear them throughout the pregnancy and post-partum. If they made a version for periods that was super absorbent or had a pouch for a reusable pad, I would buy even more.

Is it okay for a woman to wear boxers?

Yes, and plenty do. Boxers have been marketed at men for a century, which is the only reason the question comes up. Boxers for women are shaped differently through the hip and seat and sized to UK women's sizes rather than graded down from a men's block. What are Flissie boxer shorts made of?

95% Tanboocel bamboo viscose and 5% elastane. Tanboocel is a closed-loop bamboo viscose where the solvent used to process the fibre is recovered and reused rather than discharged, and without carbon disulfide. The fabric is soft from the first wear rather than needing breaking in, breathable, and temperature-regulating. Smooth seams, no tag, dyed to OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

What's the difference between the 6" and 9" inseam?

The 6" sits roughly mid-thigh, which suits skirts, dresses, gym shorts, or anyone who finds longer leg lengths too warm. The 9" extends to about an inch above the knee, and is the right choice for anti-chafing on long walks, runs, festivals, hot weather, or under flowing dresses. Both share the same waist sizing, so pick by leg-length preference rather than size.

Are bamboo boxer shorts better than cotton?

For warm days and long days, generally yes. Bamboo viscose moves moisture rather than absorbing and holding it the way cotton does, so it does not go clammy. Cotton is cheaper and far more forgiving in the wash. We compare them properly in our two-year switch.

What size boxer shorts should I order if I'm between sizes?

When you're between sizes, size up. Flissie boxer shorts need full skin contact to glide rather than friction-bunch, so going down a size works against the anti-chafing function. Most between-size customers say the larger size feels exactly right after one wear.

Do you do size 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 and above?

Yes. Every size from UK 8 to UK 30, in every colour and both leg lengths, at the same price. The leg opening and waistband width are graded separately rather than simply scaled up, which is why the leg still sits flat at a size 24, size 26 or size 30. Size 18 and size 20 are our most popular at the larger end.

Do boxer shorts for women ride up?

They can, and it is almost always leg length or size. A short leg has more thigh to travel across, so it rolls sooner. Underwear that is too small has to stretch further and grips less evenly. If you are active or your thighs rub badly, take the 9" and size up if you are between two.

Will boxer shorts show under leggings or fitted dresses?

Less than a brief under most things, because the hem sits below the curve of the bottom rather than straight across it, and there is no seam across the back or sides. Under very thin or very light fabric any edge can show, whatever you are wearing. A nude shade close to your own skin tone shows least. More on this in our guide to no VPL knickers.

How do free size swaps work?

If the size isn't right, we'll swap for a different size free of charge within 60 days. Email hello@flissie.com with your order number and the size you'd like, and we usually respond within three working days. Try one pair first before opening the rest.

When to wear them

Do bamboo boxer shorts stop thigh chafing?

That is what the longer leg is for. A smooth layer between your thighs means they glide rather than catch, and the 6 or 9 inch leg reaches past the point where thighs actually touch. Most underwear marketed to women stops short of it. We cover the mechanics on our anti-chafing shorts page.

Are boxer shorts good for the gym or long walks?

Yes, and a lot of customers use them for exactly that. Bamboo viscose breathes and moves moisture rather than sitting in it, and the longer leg stops thighs rubbing over distance. Take the 9" if you are active. For high-output running in summer, a technical synthetic will dry faster, and we say so in our gym underwear guide.

Can you wear boxer shorts under a dress?

It is one of the most common reasons people buy them. The 9" leg is the one to choose, because it reaches well past where thighs touch and stays put when you walk. The 6" works under shorter skirts and dresses.

Are these good for pregnancy or postpartum?

A lot of customers buy them for both. Take a size up so there is room as your bump grows, and wear them over or under it depending on what feels better. The waistband is wide and flat rather than a narrow band of elastic, and the longer leg deals with the chafing that often arrives when your shape changes. Every UK order ships free with no minimum spend. International orders ship free on 7 packs; smaller orders to international addresses have a shipping fee added at checkout.

Do you ship boxer shorts internationally?

Yes, we ship worldwide. 7 pack orders ship internationally free of charge. For smaller pack sizes, shipping is calculated at checkout based on destination. Import duties or taxes, if they apply in your country, are the recipient's responsibility.

Will my order arrive in discreet packaging?

Yes. Orders arrive in a plain, unbranded sugarcane mailing bag with no mention of the product on the outside. Inside, each pair is individually wrapped in compostable corn starch packaging.

How do I wash bamboo boxer shorts?

Machine wash at 30°C with similar colours, inside out to preserve the dye. Use a gentle detergent and skip fabric softener, which coats bamboo fibres and reduces breathability. Air dry where possible; tumble drying is not recommended and will shorten the fabric's life. Avoid bleach. Our care guide goes into more detail.

Why is the multi-pack of boxer shorts cheaper per pair?
